IMEC Partnership for Responsible Travel

Partnership Goals

ALL CLIMBING COMPANIES are WELCOME to PARTICIPATE with the PARTNER for RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL PROGRAM

1. Help climbing companies ensure fair labor practices: Assist climbing companies with instituting transparent procedures that guarantee that the proper porter treatment guidelines are being met.

2. Satisfy the consumer’s desire for proper treatment of the crew: Through the monitoring activities of company treatment practices, an outside and objective organization ascertains if fair treatment standards are being met.

3. Promote public awareness of proper porter treatment: Tour Operators who partner with IMEC should add IMEC's porter guidelines to the company's website. Doing so will help improve public awareness of proper porter treatment.

4. Provide additional clothing to porters: Participating in IMEC's Clothing Lending Program helps make sure that the porters have proper clothing. Encourage local companies to perform equipment checks and provide gear if necessary.

5. Ask that clients fill out post-trek evaluation forms located on IMEC's webpage: This will be a way to learn about any cases of neglect or abuse by local ground agents.  CLICK HERE

6. Encourage clients to meet and engage with their porters: This will help your clients develop a new respect for the men and woman that support the trekking and climbing industries.

7. Use porter guidelines as a marketing advantage: Make porter guidelines a marketing tool to help sell your organization's services.
